The Restoration Plea
History is filled with councils, creeds, and human divisions that splintered the religious world. The history of the Church of Christ in the Philippines is the story of a simple plea: to lay aside all human traditions, return to the first-century pattern, and simply be Christians only.
Our Journey
The true history of the Church of Christ does not begin in modern times, but on the day of Pentecost following the resurrection of Jesus. Christ promised to build His church, and He purchased it with His own blood.
We trace our spiritual heritage directly to the New Testament. Our goal has never been to create a new denomination, but to restore the original faith, worship, and practice of the first-century church.
Following the Spanish-American War, the plea to return to pure, undenominational New Testament Christianity arrived on Philippine shores. Early American missionaries, teachers, and servicemen began sharing the simple gospel.
Rather than establishing a Western denomination, they simply planted the seed of the Kingdom—the Word of God (Luke 8:11). As Filipinos read the Bible for themselves, autonomous local congregations of the church of Christ were born.
The church spread rapidly across the archipelago, not through centralized human organizations, but through local evangelists, open Bible studies, and the translation of scriptures into local dialects.
Filipino preachers took ownership of the Great Commission. Congregations sprang up in the Ilocos region, Central Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao. The plea to 'speak where the Bible speaks' resonated deeply with those seeking truth.
During the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, the church faced severe trials, poverty, and persecution. Missionaries were interned or forced to flee, leaving the local brethren entirely on their own.
This period proved the strength of the indigenous church. Because each congregation was autonomous and solely dependent on Christ as its head, the church survived and even grew during the darkest days of the war.
The decades following the war saw explosive growth. Bible colleges and preacher training schools were established across the country to equip a new generation of evangelists, elders, and teachers.
Today, there are thousands of congregations of the Church of Christ throughout the Philippines. While completely independent of one another, they are bound together by a shared love for God and a commitment to the New Testament pattern.

Historical Context
Jesus Christ. He said, 'I will build my church' (Matthew 16:18). We have no modern human founder. While missionaries brought the gospel to the Philippines in 1901, they did not start a new church; they simply introduced the teachings of the first-century church.
No. We are entirely distinct. The group known as 'Iglesia ni Cristo' (INC) was founded by Felix Manalo in 1914. We have no affiliation with them, and our doctrines—especially regarding the deity of Christ and the authority of the Bible—are fundamentally different.
We do not have one. The New Testament teaches that Christ is the head of the church, and He is in heaven (Ephesians 1:22-23). Every local congregation is autonomous (self-governing) and overseen by its own local elders, just as they were in the first century.
1901 marks the historical beginning of the Restoration Movement's presence in the Philippines. It serves as a reminder of when the plea for simple, non-denominational Christianity first took root in our country.
